Andrii Balashov

I'm an independent research scientist collaborating with teams at Georgia Institute of Technology and the Ukrainian State University of Science & Technologies and web developer. I'm also a core contributor and release coordinator for WordPress. My work spans building advanced custom plugins for WordPress and Craft CMS and developing websites. I hold a Master's in Computer Science.

Research

I work at the intersection of AI and engineering, focusing on computer vision, reinforcement learning, and large language models. My research ranges from adaptive traffic signal optimization with thermal sensors to improving stability in transportation infrastructure, while also exploring deep learning methods for image classification and AI security. Some papers are highlighted.

This paper presents an adaptive traffic light control system enhanced by FLIR TrafiOne thermal sensors and reinforcement learning. By framing traffic control as a Markov Decision Process, the study shows how real-time sensor data and RL can reduce delays by up to 38% compared to fixed-time plans, with potential for further improvements in multi-intersection coordination.

Web Development

I design and build websites and web applications that bring together modern frameworks, custom plugins, and scalable cloud infrastructure. My work spans everything from interactive front-end experiences with React and WordPress to enterprise-level integrations in Craft CMS and Azure. Some featured projects are highlighted.
